MANAGEMENT PLEDGE SUPPORT TO HON MINISTER
The Ministry will be successful and reach its goal if staff works together as a team, share ideas and follow best practice. This was said by the newly appointed minister of Public Works Honourable Lebohang Monaheng during his first meeting with staff on Friday, 05th June, 2020.
When welcoming the Minister, the Principal Secretary Mr. Mothabathe Hlalele briefed the Minister about the mandate, achievements and challenges of the Ministry. He indicated that due to financial crisis faced by the government of Lesotho, the ministry’s budget has been depreciating every year and that hinders performance. The Principal Secretary emphasized the importance of working together and creation of a conducive working environment since employees spend most of their time at work. He said Building Design Services (BDS) is a technical and specialised Department and the plan is to restructure it with the aim of attracting more professionals and retaining the present.
When speaking on behalf of staff, the Director of Planning Mrs. ‘Maselemeng ‘Mokose and the Principal Architect Mrs Lineo Lerotholi-Mosoeunyane pledged unwavering support to the Minister and his staff for the advancement of the Ministry. Mrs. ‘Mokose said Mr. Monaheng is going to lead a flexible team that is ready to go the extra mile to get their job done.
In her welcoming remarks on behalf of BDS staff, the Principal Architect strongly encouraged Honourable Minister to tour recently completed projects such as Tšifa-li-Mali Local Court, One Stop Shop Facility and Correctional Services. Mrs Lerotholi-Mosoeunyane further said the government saved a great sum of money because BDS staff handled most projects instead of outsourcing them to private sector. She indicated that the Department is furnished with professionals and their main challenges are shortage of resources and non competitive remuneration. Due to these challenges, the Ministry fails to retain and attract professionals.
The Honourable Minister pleaded with staff to perform their work diligently and avoid things that portray a bad image of the Ministry. He further indicated that he is not a technocrat, therefore he will rely on the guidance of professionals from different departments.
