Speed Humps to be Erected at Ha Pokane

The community along the Main South I in the Botha-Bothe district are promised speed humps within six months from the date of the public gathering which was held at Ha Pokane on Thursday 20th February, 2020. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Public Works Honourable Moshe Leoma. He said the construction of speed humps in those dangerous spots will be included in the 2020/2021 budget.

Even though he promised erection of speed humps, he further urged motorists to be cautious and obey the rules of the road to ensure safety of all road users including animals. The Deputy Minister indicated that not long ago his Ministry constructed speed humps at Ha Shepeseli, but that did not stop vehicle crashes in that area.

Hon. Thabang Kholumo

Amongst those who attended the gathering, was the Member of Parliament for Qalo constituency Honourable Thabang Kholumo who pleaded with the community to avoid taking law into their own hands by making protests that block the road with stones and burning tyres. Honourable Kholumo thanked the Deputy Minister for fulfilling his promise of visiting their area. He said the problem of that area dates more than twenty years ago, and as community leaders, they have been inviting ministers but there has never been any minister who honoured their invitation.

One of the villagers said when fatalities occur on the roads, the perpetrators contributes to the funeral arrangement working together with families of deceased, but there is nothing said about orphans, widow and widower left by the deceased. He pleaded with the Minister to advise the government to address that challenge.
