The Kingdom of Lesotho has approximately 7,438 km of roads. Of this length, 1,217 km are paved; 3,758km are gravel roads with the remaining 2,463 km as earth roads and tracks. Roads in the Kingdom are classified in four groups depending on the purpose and the standard. The roads are designated as classes A, B, C and D. The Classification system covers largely roads managed by MoPWT. Roads in urban areas and district roads are yet to be classified. There are 4,980 km of classified roads making up 67% of the total network. Another 1,683 km or 23% are urban roads, 690km of which are in Maseru, the capital. The remaining 10%, that is 775km, are unclassified feeder roads constructed after the classification exercise.
