PROFILE OF MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS

HON. LEBOHANG MONAHENG

Honourable Lebohang Monaheng was sworn in as the Minister of Public Works on 21st May, 2020.  He is a Member of Parliament after being elected during the 2017 national elections in the Thaba-Putsoa (40) constituency under the Democratic Congress banner.

Honourable Monaheng was born on the 12th August, 1970 in Maseru and grew up in Makhaleng Ha Mojela.  He is married and blessed with two sons and two daughters.

 

EDUCATION

Honourable Monaheng obtained Diploma in Motor Mechanics from Technical School of Leribe in 1994.  He received intensive training in Project Management. He attended Masianokeng High School where he completed his Junior Certificate and Cambridge Overseas School Certificate between 1985 and 1989.  His education started at Lithabaneng Primary School in Maseru from 1978-1984.

 

EMPLOYMENT

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Public Works, Honourable Monaheng joined Lesotho Telecommunication in 1994 where he worked as Assistant Clerk in 1994. In 1995 he worked as a Mechanic in Moolman Construction.  He then moved on to join St. James Mission Hospital as Head of Maintenance Department from 1995-2003.  In 2003-2010 he worked at Security Unlimited as a Mechanic.

Besides being employed, Honourable Monaheng is a businessman, he joined public transport in 2002 and, currently he is in freight, construction (Buildings and Cavils) and hospitality businesses.  He is a member of Boitelo Farmers since he is interested in vegetables production and livestock.

His hobbies are watching soccer and biking.

POLITICS

In 2004 Hon Monaheng joined politics and became an active member of Lesotho Congress for Democracy and in 2012 he joined the newly established Democratic Congress. He is a Member of Parliament representing Thaba-Putsoa (40) constituency.  Before his appoint as a Minister, he was a member of Prime Minister’s Ministries and Departments Cluster Committee.
