Seaka – Ketane Road Re-Construction Launched

“It is the responsibility of Seaka-Ketane community and all leaders to protect and care for developments such as road infrastructure in the area” this was said by the Deputy Prime Minister   Honourable   Mathibeli   Mokhothu   during   the   sod   turning   of   Seaka-Ketane   Road re-construction at Thaba-Sephara on Thursday 20th January, 2022.

Honourable Mokhothu indicated that Seaka-Ketane is a gravel road and it is funded by the World Bank to the tune of more than 9 million Maloti and the construction is expected to take six months.  The contractor is GL Civils.  He further said that some people did not believe that one day the construction will commence, so they should now believe. Honourable Mokhothu advised the   community to   avoid   crossing   the rivers   as   that is   dangerous   and result in unnecessary loss of lives.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Minister of Public Works Honourable Lebohang Monaheng reminded the community that it was on the 14th July, 2021 during the public gathering when he told them that he will be coming back with good news not empty handed, and most of them did not believe as they said that it was just a political rhetoric.   “Our future plan is to construct a tarred road from Phamong-Ketane-Semonkong-Ha  Seng-Thaba-Tseka  so that people are no longer obliged to go via Maseru when going to Thaba-tseka” he declared. Honourable Monaheng pleaded with the community to be patient and accept that the contractor will start where the roads are totally not accessible, for example, where bridges and roads are washed away.

Mr. Mokhalajoe Mothibi thanked the government on behalf of the Ketane community, he said that the Seaka-Ketane road serves   a great population and it will make their lives easier as they used to leave home around three in the morning when they go to Mohale’s Hoek or Quthing.   He said that for a long time many leaders have been promising them road but they never fulfilled their promise.  He noted that life is very hard when there are no roads and their hope is that when the road is complete, tourism will improve.

At the end of the gathering,   the   Deputy   Prime   Minister   donated   footballs   to   the   nearby   school   and   the community.

Warm Welcome for the New Principal Secretary

Staff of the Ministry of Public Works welcomed the newly appointed Principal Secretary (PS) Ms.Tšepang Koele on Wednesday 18th August at the Ministry’s grounds in Maseru.  In her remarks, Ms. Koele indicated that before joining the team, she was not aware that Public Works is a technical Ministry, she therefore pleaded with technocrats to advise the management accordingly for the betterment of the ministry and development of the country.   The Principal Secretary further pledged her full support to both technical and support staff.

The new Principal Secretary was introduced to staff by the Deputy Principal Secretary Advocate Lesimole Moletsane.  Advocate Moletsane in her welcoming remarks said managers and leaders exist because there are people to lead and manage, therefore they as managers should work hard to create a conducive environment so that staff could perform their work diligently.  She further noted that civil servants are humble, easy to manage and ready to go extra mile when they are well taken care of.

The Principal Secretary noted that the Ministry is the backbone of the country’s infrastructure as roads and bridges play a significant role in connecting communities to services such as clinics and schools. In conclusion, she admitted that challenges would be there, but employees should not focus on that, instead they should take full responsibility, work as a team and celebrate their achievements.

When speaking on behalf of employees, Mr. Mosesane Pheko applauded the Principal Secretary for her encouraging words and pleaded with her to keep her doors open for staff so that it can be easy for them to consult.
